Hyderabad: Playgrounds to host Eid prayers this year
Hyderabad: Playgrounds will be used apart from idgahs and mosques for special prayers on Id-ul-Fitr in many areas of the city. With the expansion of the city and increase in the population, idgahs have become insufficient and this is forcing Muslims to use open places for offering Id prayers.
The practical Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad was to leave his mosque on the occasion of Id for the special prayer and offer prayers in the musalla (prayer-niche) that was at the outer gate of Madina city.
This indicates that Muslims should go out to the prayer-niche and not offer Id prayer in mosques, except in the case of a necessity. Nowadays, Muslims are offering prayers in mosques also as the available idgahs in and around the city are not sufficient.
In the GHMC limits more than 2.5 million Muslims offer Id prayers and are increasingly using open places and playgrounds.
Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadees first started to perform the Id prayers in playgrounds and stadiums. Members of this school of though approached the authorities to allow them to use the grounds and obtained permits. The hockey ground at Masab Tank and other grounds have been used by members of other schools of thought also for Id prayers for many years.
