Amaravati school, hotel tenders spiked

Keeping this in view, the authority has taken a decision to cancel the tendering process for selection of participants in the tenders.

Hyderabad: In a controversial decision, the AP government has decided to cancel tenders called for to set up national and international boarding, day scholar schools and star hotels in Amaravati.

The AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), in its 10th authority meeting, chaired by AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has taken this decision.

The CRDA called tenders for setting up of national and international boarding and day scholar schools in Amaravati city and fixed the land cost at Rs. 50 lakh per acre. But, the response to the tendering process is very poor as only a single bid has qualified.

Keeping this in view, the authority has taken a decision to cancel the tendering process for selection of participants in the tenders. The CRDA meeting decided to invite the best and reputed state, national and international schools to Amaravati to establish their schools, noting the need for such schools as part of the much-needed social infrastructure to trigger academic and economic activity in the greenfield city of Amaravati to attract people. The CRDA commissioner was authorised to initiate necessary action in this regard to invite best and reputed state, national and international schools and process the proposals for approval. The officials said the government (CRDA) would give permission on nomination basis without calling any tenders further.

The officials said according to tender rules, if there is only one bid that the government can take a decision to award that project to the single bidder or cancel the tenders and call for fresh tenders.

But in this case, the tenders were canceled and the government decided to allot the project on nomination basis with consultations. Regarding star hotels, the CRDA called tenders for setting up of 3, 4 and 5-star hotels in Amaravati capital city. It decided the land cost at Rs. 2 crore per acre.

In this case also, the response for tendering was very poor and only one bid was qualified.
