AP cataract surgery case: Diabetes too played its role in vision loss
Kakinada: Nine persons have allegedly lost their sight totally or partially due to post-operative endopthalmitis after cataract surgery was performed in April at the Lions District Eye Hospital of Jaggampet.
“The doctors at Visakhapatnam removed the eyes of two persons. They made it clear that the vision of seven persons was lost due to infection,” claimed one Bala Raju of J. Kothuru.
Personnel from the club or doctors who performed the first surgery were not available for comment. The victims, R. Satyavati, B. Ramulu, Ch. Satyanarayana, K. Krishna Rao and others complained to Vetlapalem vice-chairman Valluri Srinivasa Rao. He said when he contacted the doctors concerned, they promised to ensure justice to the victims.
Mr Srinivasa Rao warned the doctors of taking stringent action against the organisers. The Hospital’s trustee and Lions Club district governor Koduri Ranga Rao said some of the persons had developed infection due to diabetes.
