Seema to get super speciality facilities
ANANTAPUR: The Rayalaseema region will soon have super specialty hospital facilities at Anantapur as part of post bifurcation projects to AP. Of two super specialty hospitals, one was sanctioned at Guntur to meet the needs of coastal parts and Anantapur hospital to meet the needs of the Rayalaseema region four years ago. Health minister Aalla Nani had expressed that state government would share the grant and directed the general hospital authorities to send proposals about the needs of both doctors and equipment.
As the super specialty hospital building is likely to be completed within two months, the minister announced during his recent visit that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy would inaugurate the hospital in August.
The work is upgradation of the Government Medical College under the ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’ (PMSSY) phase-III. The hospital will provide all top medical facilities for patients from Anantapur and surrounding districts. The hospital was sanctioned an estimated cost of `75.27 crore in 2016 and work started on June 6 in 2016. A Vizag-based construction company was allotted the works. Though the hospital was scheduled to complete by December 2017, this was delayed due to several reasons including delay in providing a matching grant by state government.
The vacant land of the cancer hospital was allotted to the 200 bedded super specialty hospital and 4 floors over 18503 sq.mts of floor area designed to accommodate 8 special wings - cardiology, neurology, nephrology, medical gastroenterology and surgical gastroenterology along with the connecting departments.
Sources said that the general hospital authorities had sent proposals seeking 179 doctor posts of professors and assistant professors. In addition, about 280 nursing and non-technical staff were required for the super specialty hospital.
It may be noted that Anantapur general hospital is flooded with patients every day and unable to provide quality medical aid due to lack of adequate staff and beds.
Patients are forced to rush to Bengaluru for treatment.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders are planning a name for the super specialty hospital. BJP vice-president Vishnuvardhan Reddy said that the party will propose the name of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
