3 fever deaths in two days in 'Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital'

As on Thursday afternoon, about 54 patients (15 men and 37 women) are undergoing treatment for dengue at the CMCH alone.

COIMBATORE: In the last two days alone, Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) has recorded three deaths caused due to dengue and other fevers.

Nishantani (4), daughter of Prashanth from Pollachi was admitted to the CMCH July 29 (Saturday). Tests confirmed that this baby girl was suffering from dengue that was in its advanced stage. Not responding to treatment, Nishantani died at this hospital on Wednesday. “She was undergoing treatment for dengue at a hospital in Pollachi and was referred to CMCH. This child suffered multi-organ failure and eventually lost her battle. Early diagnose of dengue and the right treatment can save lives.” said a highly placed source from CMCH.

On Monday, 46-year-old Shantamani from Thottipalayam suffering from viral fever was admitted at the CMCH. She breathed her last here on Wednesday. A highly placed source from this hospital told DC that she was undergoing treatment for fever and she died of respiratory trouble.

Satish Kumar Singh, originally from Bihar, a migrant worker in Tirupur died at the CMCH this Tuesday. Testing positive for H1N1 virus (swine flu), he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Not responding to treatment, he was referred to the CMCH.

However, he was declared brought dead on arrival here on Tuesday.

As on Thursday afternoon, about 54 patients (15 men and 37 women) are undergoing treatment for dengue at the CMCH alone. Another 183 patients suffering from fever have been admitted here.

A source from this hospital shares that in order to diagnose and treat dengue in its early stage, a team of medical staff is currently carrying out door-to-door screening in rural pockets across Coimbatore and will continue throughout this month during which, those testing positive for dengue will be referred to CMCH for treatment.
