Guntur: GPS to curb sand illegalities
GUNTUR: The government departments want a mobile application to be developed that can help monitor free sand scheme while restraining illegalities in Guntur district. This was mentioned during the first review meeting of district-level sand scheme implementation committee at Guntur on Thursday. Addressing the meeting, district collector K. Sasidhar said the AP government’s sand policy was very good and helpful for the people who will get free sand for house constructions.
While directing the mining department to initiate measures to fulfil the sand requirement for government constructions, he suggested installation of GPS in all sand transporting vehicles to restrain illegalities. He also sought the development of a mobile applications to monitor the implementation of free and scheme.
Mr Sasidhar said that the government formed committee for hassle-free sand distribution to the public. The committee will conduct review every 15 days. He said that the district collector would be the chairman of the committee with officials of police and transport departments being members and mining assistant director the member convener of the committee.
He asked the public to lodge complaints on 1100 and 18004252099, toll-free numbers if they face any difficulties and or notice any illegality in sand distribution. He warned that mining would not be allowed near bridges, national highways and railway lines. Violators would be punished, he added. Guntur Rural SP Ch V. Appala Naidu said the police department would set up check posts to restrain illegal sand transportation. Joint collector Krithika Shukla, officials of police, mining participated in the meet.
