Hyderabad: Flyover to affect 4 defence offices

Wall of Kendriya Vidyalaya wall to be razed.

Hyderabad: Land belonging to four defence establishments — NCC Directorate, Directorate General of Quality Assurance, Kendriya Vidyalaya-Picket, College of Warfare and two private structures including Millennium Gardens, all located on Gen. Choudhary Road leading to Kharkhana — have been marked for acquisition by the government.

Two residential blocks housing NCC officers will be demolished, along with the compound walls of the other buildings, to make space for the flyover connecting Jubilee bus station and Bolarum.

The NCC Directorate sprawls across 9.8 acres. The compound wall and buffer zone of the directorate measuring 19.8 metres will be acquired along with the two residential quarters.

Millennium Garden will lose 28 metres on the main road opposite Tivoli theatre. The compound wall of Kendriya Vidyalaya is likely to be razed.

“A GHMC-appointed consultant marked the land a few months ago. No defence official has been informed of the plan. The area falls in the buffer zone of the establishments but we are clueless of whether the exchange would be through land or funds”, said a senior officer.

A GHMC engineer said, “The flyover is estimated to cost about Rs 100 crore per km for an elevated corridor and Rs 10 crore per km for road development. The department will build an elevated corridor in areas where it would be difficult to acquire land.”
