Nizamabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha for turmeric board
Nizamabad: Kalvakuntla Kavitha, Nizamabad MP, has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to set up a turmeric board in the interest of the farming community. The Central government should set up the turmeric board as the crop is being cultivated in 13 states, she noted.
Kavitha had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday. She told the Prime Minister that absence of turmeric board is affecting the fortunes of farmers during pre and post harvesting seasons. Turmeric farmers are also unable to get the minimum support price for the produce, she said.
She said that the State government had allocated 40 acres of land for a spices park in Nizamabad district and has also sanctioned Rs 30 crore. She said that imp-orting turmeric is adversely affecting turmeric farmers.
Kavitha handed over letters of support from Maharashtra and Assam chief ministers to the Prime Minister in support of setting up a board. Kavitha also met M.Venkaiah Naidu, and Piyush Goyal, minister for power. The MP will meet Sushma Swaraj, minister for external affairs, on Friday.
