Brain-Dead Man's Organs Shifted from Anantapur by Green Channel
Anantapur: Organs of a brain-dead construction worker were donated by the grieving family even at the height of their distress, so as to help implant them on patients struggling with organ failure.
The authorities arranged a green channel to reach these organs to different hospitals by air lifting and by road from the KIMS Savera hospital here on Friday.
Anke Jagadish, 30, from Bukkarayasamudram in this district worked as a mason at construction sites. Seriously injured in a road accident, he was shifted to KIMS Savera, where doctors declared him brain-dead. Jagadish was father of a two-year-old child and a two-month-old baby.
It was while returning from work that Jagadish fell from the bike and suffered head injuries. He was taken to the government hospital first and a CT scan was done. As the condition was critical, he was shifted to KIMS Savera on Thursday.
When doctors explained the situation to the family members, they readily agreed to donate the organs. The Jeevandan team made necessary arrangements to donate the patient’s lungs, liver and two kidneys. A five-member team of doctors worked on the task.
The lungs were transported to Hyderabad via the Orvakal airport in Kurnool, from where a special flight was arranged for Hyderabad. While the liver was also transported to Vizag, the kidneys were shifted to Bengaluru by road.
The entire process via green channel was organised in coordination with Anatapur SP Srinivasa Rao and the forensic department of the government general hospital, Anantapur.
