Amaravati: Tension prevailed for some time at the temporary Secretariat due to protests by professors of universities at Velagapudi in the Amaravati capital region on Saturday.
The professors and assistant professors working in the universities came to Velagapudi to submit a memorandum to minister for human resources G. Srinivas Rao and finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu seeking solve their problems.
But the ministers were conducting a review meeting with Vice-Chancellors. So, they denied permission to the professors and assistant professors. The angry teaching faculty staged a protest and raised slogans against the ministers. The police rushed to the spot and sent back the protestors from the Secretariat but as they stood adamant, the police arrested them.
Responding to the protest, minister Ramakrishnudu objected to the behaviour of the professors and assistant professors. He said that there is good way to express their difficulties.
