Kalajyothi road waits for repairs
Hyderabad: Residents of Kalajyothi Road, Kondapur, are waiting for the road to be repaired for the last two years. Along the road are posh buildings where the residents, primarily techies, purchased flats for crores of rupees.
There have been multiple accidents on this road, with commuters on two-wheelers often skidding or slipping due to potholes. Multiple requests to the GHMC to repair the roads have gone unheard.
Residents allege that with two pre-schools and the government school at Masjid Banda nearby, the situation is worrisome. Due to the bad condition of the roads, vehicles often get stuck in the mud.
A resident, C. Seshank, said, “We have raised a dozen complaints and have spoken to the every GHMC official. After a wait of about two years we still have a pathetic road. I have personally witnessed motorists, sometimes mothers with toddlers on their vehicles, slipping on this road due to potholes and the construction sand.”
The area has no lights and witnesses constant dumping of construction debris. While residents are struggling to get basic infrastructure, some of them have lodged GHMC complaints repeatedly with the hope that the road repairs are done before the situation is escalated. A commuter, S. Balaji, said, “This area is expanding rapidly and construction is a continuous process but the roads are not developed on par with infrastructure, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents. The road has been in bad shape for a long time and it is deteriorating each day. Commuting on this road has become an extremely dangerous in itself and specially for two-wheelers.”
The GHMC has sanctioned repairs for the road under its preventive periodical maintenance. Residents do not believe that the works will be grounded and soon will be forgotten as the sanctions were done months ago, and no repair work has been started yet.
When asked, a GHMC official said that, “The work has been awarded to the contractor and once the work at Camelot layout Masjid Banda is completed, within 15 days, this road will be laid”.
