Salem: Youth falls off rock while taking selfie, dies
SALEM: Excited over the cascading effect of the waterfall at Nagalur hills near Karumanthurai in Salem district, a 19-year-old youth trying to take a selfie from a rock nearby slipped and fell to his death on Wednesday, police said today.
Prasanth of Akkichettipalayam in the district and a third year engineering student had gone with nine of his friends for an afternoon outing on Wednesday to Nagalur hills where they went to have a bath in the waterfalls.
Prasanth after a cool shower at the waterfalls moved to an adjacent rock from where he tried taking a selfie of the pounding waters. But tragically, he slipped and plunged into a deep pit 980-ft below, police said.
Kariyakovil police on information rushed to the spot with fire brigade personnel and mounted a search for Prasanth but had to call it off last evening due to poor visibility. On Thursday morning, with the help of locals, they managed to locate Prasanth's body trapped between two other rocks, adding poignancy to the tragedy. Even as Prasanth’s body was sent for post-mortem, his village plunged into grief.
Further investigations are on.
