CM Jagan on Two-day Delhi Tour, to Meet PM and HM
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will visit New Delhi and is likely to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah on October 6.
The Chief Minister will fly on October 5 from Tadepalli, will stay for the night in Delhi and participate in the central government’s review meeting in Vigyan Bhavan on Left Wing Extremism on October 6.
He planned to meet PM Modi soon after his return from the recent London tour. However, it did not materialise due to the G-20 summit etc. When Jagan Mohan Reddy was in London, Telugu Desam chief N. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested and jailed.
According to sources, the BJP leadership paused for a while as it thought if the top brasses of the BJP met Jagan Mohan Reddy at that juncture, it would have sent wrong signals to the masses. It could raise questions of a likely collusion between the CM and the central BJP leadership.
Hence, the CM did not get any response from the central leaders to his plans to visit Delhi. Jagan Mohan Reddy meanwhile postponed his Delhi tour.
There are a few months’ time left for the general elections and hence the CM’s Delhi meeting is likely to revolve around political strategies and alliances, overshadowing the discussions on policies and administrative matters.
There are speculations that Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to the national capital was intended to update the Prime Minister and home minister about Naidu’s arrest.
Every time Jagan Mohan Reddy went to Delhi, he used to raise the issues like release of funds for Polavaram irrigation project and other arrears that Andhra Pradesh was supposed to get from the Centre. This time too, he would do so.
The sources said that there are chances of the CM discussing Pawan Kalyan's unilateral decision of allying with the Telugu Desam in the AP elections despite his political alliance with the BJP.
Jagan Mohan Reddy during his stay in Delhi for two days, also plans to meet several Union ministers to take up various issues pertaining to the state.
