Hyderabad: The Income Tax department conducted decoy operations against a few construction companies in Telangana and AP.
Following this, the department began raids and surveys from Wednesday. The evaders and defaulters were placed in three categories. Raids began from those with income of over one crore rupees.
After compiling previous financial year’s data, officials formed teams for decoy operations to estimate the revenue of prominent companies.
Several teams visited Pavani Constructions, Western Constructions and others to verify the prices of villas, flats and plots being sold by these companies.
I-T teams chosen for the decoy operation were couples posing as wife and husband to win the confidence of construction companies’ staff.
An official said that on Wednesday, teams conducted surveys followed by raids on Pavani Constructions and Western Constructions.
“Surveys were done to verify documents such as ledgers and accounts along with searches. If we suspect something, we conduct raids and search bank lockers,” the official said.
