Aadhaar linking: 30 per cent backlog in Telangana
Hyderabad: Four crucial Aadhaar linkage deadlines are approaching but there is still a backlog of 30 per cent in Telangana.
This may result in those who have not linked up losing out on banking, mobile and government services in the new year.
The backlog is more in the case of PAN-Aadhaar and PAN-mobile SIM linkage at 20 per cent, while 10 per cent backlog prevails in Aadhaar linkage with banks, financial institutions and government schemes. The agencies have started sending out SMSes to those who failed to link their Aadhaar card, asking them to do linkage at the earliest to avoid inconvenience and disruption in availing services.
The deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN is December 31, 2017, which was extended twice from July 1. Many people could not link the two cards due to spelling errors and mis-match of other data. The latest deadline is December 31. If the linkage is not done. their income-tax returns will not be processed.
The deadline to link Aadhaar with accounts in banks and financial institutions is also December 31. It is mandatory to submit the Aadhaar and PAN details to be KYC (Know Your Customer)-compliant. If this is not done by December 31, the account will become inoperable till the time the required details are submitted.
The third deadline pertains to the linkage of Aadhaar with the mobile phone SIM card, which has been set as February 6, 2018.
The department of telecommunications (DoT), after the Supreme Court judgement on February 6, 2017, has asked telecom operators to re-verify all the existing mobile subscribers (pre-paid and post-paid) via Aadhaar-based e-KYC. It has also become mandatory to provide Aadhaar details while buying new mobile SIM connections.
As per the Supreme Court order, the process of re-verification of all existing mobile subscribers must be completed by February 6, 2018.
Telecom companies, on their websites, are cautioning users that their mobile connection services might get restricted or their numbers might become inactive in case Aadhaar-based compliance is not done.
The deadline to link Aadhaar with government schemes is also December 31. It is mandatory to link Aadhaar to avail various government benefits such as availing subsidy on LPG cylinders, the Centre’s scholarship schemes, pensions and subsided ration under public distribution system. The original deadline of September 30 was extended to December 31.
