FCI to auction wheat to control market prices

Vijayawada: Food Corporation of India is e-auctioning wheat in the open market on November 8 to control the commodity’s prices.

FCI AP region general manager Chandrasekhar Joshi said wheat processers, atta chakki, flour millers can participate in the auction. Eligible bidders with GST, traded tax registration of the state, union territory can bid for minimum quantity of 10 MT, with the maximum quantity being 200 MT.

Further, the Department of Food and Public Distribution has decided to offload 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat @ Rs 21.50 / kg to semi-government and cooperative organisations like Kendriya Bhandar for converting the allocated wheat into atta and offer it for sale to public under Bharat Atta, with the maximum retail price (MRP) not exceeding RS 27.50 / kg.

The FCI GM said the wheat purchased by bidders from FCI must be processed into wheat products and released into the market for sale within 30 days from the last date of lifting the stock from FCI.
