Hyderabad: With 44 cases of murder for dowry reported in 2022, Telangana stood in the fifth place in the country in this category. Overall, the number of murders has decreased from 1,026 in 2021 to 937 in 2022, according to the ‘Crime in India 2022’ report, released by NCRB on Monday.
Among other findings, the NCRB said the motive for murder in 116 cases was illicit relationship; love affairs 14; honour killing three; various types of disputes, including land, and family 516; murder for gain 55 and personal vendetta/enmity in 41 cases.
Among the six child sacrifice cases reported nationwide, one was in Telangana. Gujarat reported two human sacrifice cases, while Jharkhand, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh reported one each.
Financial issues were the motive in 29 murders, while the motive was unknown in 29 cases in the state.
A majority of victims were in the 30-45 years age-group. Of the 410 victims in this category, 310 were men. These apart, 65 senior citizens were killed in the year, including 21 women.
