Volvo case: Key accused at large
HYDERABAD: The prime accused in the Mahbubnagar Volvo bus mishap in which 45 persons were charred to death is absconding. Feroze Basha, the driver of the bus, is not attending the court for the last one and a half years, said a senior official of the Telangana CID.
The bus owned by Jabbar Travels caught fire after hitting a culvert on the National Highway 44 near Palem in Mahbubnagar.
45 passengers, including 19 software engineers, were charred to death in the accident on October 30, 2013.
The Telangana CID teams had gone to Bengaluru twice to track him. The court also had issued a warrant against him. “The accused shifted his residence. The Mahbubnagar police arrested him at the time of the incident. The case was later transferred to the CID,” said an official from the CID.
The charge sheet alleged that the bus owner had altered the interiors of the bus and added five more seats.
The CID has constituted a team to gather more information about Basha’s family and other details.
