Tantri must go, says Sunil Kumar
Thrissur: The tantri of Sabarimala shrine who conducted the purification ritual after the entry of two young women into the sannidhanam should be removed from that post, Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar has said.
"To conduct such a ritual after the entry of two women is unacceptable. The tantri is not above the government and does not have the right to close the sanctum sanctorum. Such temple customs within the realm of Brahmanism are causing discrimination in society," he said.
He was inaugurating the International Theatre Conference jointly organised by the School of Drama and Calicut University fine arts department at the John Mathai Centre at Aranattukara here on Friday.
Writer and professor Sunil P. Elayidom also spoke at the conference.
