2BHK: Builders hesitant

No contractor has come forward to take up the work in Indur.

Nizamabad: A prestigious 2-BHK housing scheme is facing a difficult situation as no contractor has come forward to take up the work. Many people have applied for the scheme hoping to get a house.

Tenders were cancelled in Nizamabad district as no bidder applied for the 2-BHK contract. The district administration is planning to call for tenders again.

The state government sanctioned 7,315 2-BHK houses for Nizamabad district for 2015-16. Unit cost in urban areas is Rs 5.30 lakh and Rs 5.04 lakh in rural areas.

Telangana State Housing Corporation, Roads and Buildings departments took up the responsibility of construction of houses. Tenders called in e-procurement method for construction companies last month but there was no response.

Meanwhile, receiving of applications and field survey is being taken up in the district. In Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency, the applications will be received in specified format from February 5 to 12.

To avoid those not eligible at survey level, the officials suggested to the applicants to submit the photo copies of old ration card, food security card and Aadhaar card.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle joint collector A.Ravinder Reddy said that out of 117 locations, around 100 locations were finalised for construction of 2-BHK houses.

“We are taking all steps to identify the genuine beneficiaries of below poverty line for the housing scheme,” he said. Criminal action will be initiated, if any middlemen or others cheat the beneficiaries, he warned.

Replying to a question, the JC said that re-tenders will be called from construction companies. There is no proposal of increase in the unit cost of houses, he said.

As per the guidelines of the government, beneficiaries will be selected for the 2-BHK scheme either by lucky draw or some other method, he explained. Mr Ravinder Reddy suggested people should approach the special cell set up in tahsildar office and should not believe mediators.

Meanwhile, MLAs identified habitations to construct the 2-BHK houses, where the land is available. In Nizamabad, around 88 acres prime land was identified at Government Girija Degree College near bypass road for housing scheme.

G+2 buildings will be constructed for the scheme providing 50 per cent reservation for SC/STs, 12 per cent for minorities. In rural areas, seven per cent houses will be reserved for minorities.
