BENGALURU: The project to build a 65-km long Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) to help ease traffic in the city, has hit a hurdle over land acquisition and has been put on the backburner even before the three-day Invest Karnataka -20016 summit could conclude.
Documents available with the Deccan Chronicle reveal that the Japanese delegation led by Mr. Seiji Takagi, director general for South West Asia METI, made it clear to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday during a one- on- one meeting that Japan will not execute the project unless the state government acquires the land for it.
The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) had agreed to build the 75-meter wide access controlled PRR costing about Rs 3,900 crore on a Public- Private Partnership basis provided the cost of the land was borne by the state government.
But with the BDA being cash –strapped, the state government has not been able to find the Rs 8,000 crore required for the land acquisition. This has clearly not gone down well with the Japanese delegation, which is now refusing to execute the project unless the land is given to it on a platter as promised.
