Kochi: 3518 classrooms go hitech in district
KOCHI: The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has turned 3518 class rooms in government and aided schools in the district into hi-tech classrooms as part of its mission to strengthen the general education sector. Most number of classrooms have been made hi-tech in KPMVHSS Poothotta (27), SNHSS, Okkal (27), and Mar Eliyas HSS Kottappady and HIHSS Edavanakad (26 each).
KITE district cordinator M.P. Jayan said a total of 476 schools including 195 government schools and 281 aided schools have benefited from the initiative. A sum of Rs 30.57 crore was provided by KIIFB for the purpose.
A total of 4,780 laptops, 3,563 projectors, 3,410 sound boxes and 3,387 mounting kits have been made available in these schools apart from 377 television sets (42"), 431 DSLR cameras and 476 full HD webcams. High speed broadband internet is now available in 863 schools in the district, Mr Jayan said, adding 5,277 students are now members in Little Kites clubs formed in 175 schools in the district.
“There is a complaint redressal portal and call centre facility for the service of the equipment. Five year warranty and insurance for the equipement against theft and damages too have been secured,” he said.
“In addition to these facilities, we have imparted training to all teachers using the Samagra portal on how to teach in the hi-tech classrooms,” Mr Jayan said.
There's an online open learning course portal named KOOL (KITE's Open Online Course) for those teachers who wish to master the art at home.
