Rajahmundry: Elderly woman dies after heart attack
As more number of devotees turned up, a stampede-like situation developed while the devotees pushed and jostled against one another.
Rajahmundry: An elderly woman died of heart attack while standing in a queue to take darshan at the Lord Veerabhadara temple as part of Shivaratri festivities at Patiseema village of Polavaram mandal in West Godavari.
According to police, the woman, Talari Kanaka Durga, 60, from Jangareddygudem, arrived with her family friends and was waiting to take darshan while the sun was shining hot.
As more number of devotees turned up, a stampede-like situation developed while the devotees pushed and jostled against one another. The woman suffered sun stroke and dehydration leading to heart attack. She collapsed in the queue and was shifted to the health centre at the venue. Doctors declared her dead. Police booked a case and investigation is on.
