Parallel ‘poru yatra’ upsets Revanth’s supporters in Adilabad district
Adilabad: Congress leaders, who are supporters of TPCC president Anumula Revanth Reddy, are upset that just when the state Congress chief’s Haath Se Haath Jodo (HSHJ) yatra would have entered erstwhile Adilabad district through Khanapur or Mancherial assembly constituencies, AICC programme implementation committee Telangana unit chairman Alleti Maheshwar Reddy has started his Telangana Congress poru yatra.
According to Revanth Reddy’s followers, their leader’s HSHJ yatra would have entered greater Adilabad district on March 9 and passed through Khanapur, Adilabad, Mancherial, and Asifabad assembly constituencies.
But Maheshwar Reddy’s poru yatra launched on March 3 has compelled the TPCC chief to alter the route of his Haath Se Haath Jodo yatra. This has upset Revanth’s supporters, who had been hoping to draw some mileage by being in the company of their leader during the HSHJ yatra. Some of them are aspirants for the Congress ticket in the forthcoming assembly elections.
These leaders will thus have to wait for the time when the state Congress chief’s Haath Se Haath Jodo yatra enters Adilabad district at a later date.
Senior Congress leader Charulatha Rathod and Bharath Chowhan from Khanapur attended Maheshwar Reddy’s poru yatra, while senior Congress leader Vedma Bojju had been absent.
Charulatha and Bharath had raised their voice against Revanth when their names had not been included in the new state-level committees.
Veteran leader and former minister Ch. Ramchandra Reddy and former AICC member Naresh Jadhav also did not attend the poru yatra in Nirmal. Ramchandra Reddy and his group have strained relations with Maheshwar Reddy and are supporting Revanth Reddy’s leadership.
It is said Adilabad DCC president Sajid Khan, once a staunch supporter of Maheshwar Reddy, opposed the poru yatra when the TPCC resident is already taking out the national Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra. Yet Sajid Khan did attend the poru yatra at Bhainsa. However, he ended up with a bitter taste as he had not been given an opportunity to address the gathering on the first day of poru yatra at Bhainsa. Senior Congress leader and TPCC state general secretary Gandrath Sujatha of Adilabad also did attend poru yatra.
Likewise, Komaram Bheem Asifabad district DCC president Vishwa Prasad Rao and senior political leader Marsakola Saraswati, who recently joined the Congress in the presence of Revanth Reddy, also remained absent from poru yatra.
