Reduce weightage on population: K Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Southern states fear they will each lose Rs 20,000 crore on an average in five years to northern states if the NDA government’s terms of reference for the 15th Finance Commission come into force from 2020-21 to 2024-25 financial year.
In a recent meeting, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said, “The weightage for population in tax devolution should be reduced. More weightage should be given for other performance indicators in various sectors such as infrastr-ucture, irrigation, housing, tax collections etc.”
Mr Rao said, “TS is playing a major role in nation building by contribution more funds to the Centre. We pay around Rs 54,000 crore per year in the form of various taxes but we get less than Rs 25,000 crore in return. The Centre’s policy should help backward states to develop on par with progressive states but should not make pr-ogressive states become backward states.”
