50 per cent opt for state syllabus after CBSE class 10
Thiruvananthapuram: Half of some 70,000 students taking the Class X CBSE exams used to migrate to state syllabus for Plus Two.
As per Right to Information data obtained by Aided Higher Secondary Teachers Association (AHSTA) general secondary S. Manoj, 37,035 students from CBSE and 3360 ICSE switched the board in 2017-18. In 2018-19, it was 38,985 and 3,879 respectively.
In Thiruvananthapuram region covering the whole state, 36,326 of 36,992 students who appeared from 654 schools cleared the exam as per the CBSE Class XII result statistics released on Thursday. The pass percentage of girls is 98.94 and boys 97.41.
It is students who completed CBSE Class X in 2017-18 who appeared from the CBSE twelfth standard exams this year.
If we compare the statistics of the twelfth standard CBSE examination results with that of the higher secondary admission statistics, it would be clear that more students preferred state syllabus after completing Class X.
Students are migrating on a large-scale to state schools from national boards, over the past few years.
State schools follow NCERT textbooks for science subjects. CBSE schools also use NCERT textbooks, Mr Manoj told Deccan Chronicle.
