Horses at mounted police branch get facilities to tackle scorching heat
Chennai: As temperature is reaching a new high everyday, Chennai’s mounted police branch at Pudupet is gearing up to help the 39 horses in the department. From supplying water rich food to installing air conditioners in their shelters, the prestigious Mounted Police Branch has taken adequate measures conducive for horses.
The shelters of the horses are covered with vetiver screens and water is sprayed regularly.
Foods such as carrots, beetroots, oats and liquids with glucose with ice bars area regularly supplied to the horses.
It may be noted that the Mounted Police Force is over 92-year-old, inching towards the centenary. Chennai City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan is taking measures to strengthen the force.
Mounted force is used in patrolling the morning and evening beaches and other crowded junctions during festivals and Independence Day and Republic Day parades.
