Mission on to save Killi River
Thiruvanathapuram: The plan of action for 'Killiyar City Mission' was charted out on Monday, at a people's convention inaugurated by finance minister Thomas Isaac. By June 30, ward-level conventions will be held. Between July 1 and 15, conventions to form local monitoring committee will be held. On July 15, there will be a river walk. An awareness campaign will be held from July 15 to August 15. There will be a one-day cleanup on September 8.
There will also be door-to-door campaigns. Meetings of head teachers and PTA, reporting in schools and Anganwadi, as well as meetings of retired persons, residents' associations, political parties, CDS and ADS members, clubs, libraries, and people's organisations will be utilised. The patrons of Killiyar City Mission are Mr Isaac, tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran, LSGD minister K. T. Jaleel, water resources minister Mathew T. Thomas, Shashi Tharoor MP, A Sampath MP, Suresh Gopi MP, legislators K. Muraleedharan, V. S. Sivakumar and O. Rajagopal MLA, Haritha Keralam Mission vice-chairperson T.N. Seema, poet B. Sugathakumari, former speaker M. Vijayakumar, former mayors V. Sivankutty, K. Chandrika, C. Jayan Babu and J. Chandra, and political party representatives Pannyan Raveendran, Anavoor Nagappan, V. R. Anil, Neyyattinkara Sanal and Suresh.
Mayor V. K. Prasanth will chair the Mission. Development Standing Committee chairperson Vanchiyoor Babu will be general convenor. All standing committee chairpersons, as well as BJP councillor V. G. Girkumar and UDF councillor D. Anilkumar, will be co-convenors. Corporation secretary L. S. Deepa will be the convenor. The Mission will have political party representatives, councillors, NGOs, various department heads, youth organisation representatives, labourers' union representatives, Kudumbashree members, employees' organisation representatives as well as industrialists as its members.
