Khammam: Godavari recedes after hitting 45 feet

About 29,000 cusecs of water was being released from the Taliperu project by opening 11 gates in Charla mandal.

Khammam: The Godavari river, which was threatening to breach the second warning mark at Bhadrachalam on Saturday, calmed down and was flowing at 42.30 feet at 7 pm on Sunday. It stood at 45.5 feet at 6 am and 44.6 feet at 10 am.

About 29,000 cusecs of water was being released from the Taliperu project by opening 11 gates in Charla mandal. Officers and tahsildars were asked to ensure removal of waste and mud on the pushkar ghats that are deposited by the receding river. Officials were told to visit habitations as there was a risk diseases spreading after the rains.

Rain and floodwater damaged the roads at 70 places in Dummugudem, Charla, Aswapuram, Allapalli, Gundala and Pinapaka mandals. A lot of floodwater coming from drains as well as suices of river bund rea-ched the Vista Complex near to Rama temple in Bhadrachalam temple, and it was being pumped back to the Godavari.
