Increase qualification ratio to 1:100, Group-1 aspirants urge TSPSC

HYDERABAD: Some candidates who had cleared the Group-1 preliminary exams held last October have appealed the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC), urging an adjustment in the qualification ratio from 1:50 to 1:100 for the forthcoming Mains examination to fill 503 vacancies. Incidentally, October exam was nullified due to the leakage of question papers and the preliminary examination was held again in June this year.

A batch of candidates met Congress MLA Dansari Anasuya (Dr Seethakka) and implored her to take forward their case with both the commission and the government. “The legislator assured that she would raise the issue with the commission,” the candidates said later. In order to mount pressure, they are also hoping to meet leaders from other political parties.

They asserted that the notification, the first in 11 years, explicitly permitted modification of terms and conditions across various stages of the examination process. Towards this, they are seeking a 1:100 qualifying ratio for the Mains.

Praveen, who cleared the 2022 prelims, deplored the injustice being meted out to candidates who had prepared for the exams, only to find them annulled. They are pleading with the authorities to evolve a humanitarian approach and consider their pleas. Balraju, another aspirant, echoed a similar sentiment and emphasised the need to accommodate more candidates.

Citing a precedent, the candidates pointed out that when it came to the recruitment of constables and sub-inspectors, the Telangana State Level Police Recruitment Board had effectively revised the cut-off marks for the preliminary exams in response to candidates’ appeals citing the extended gap since the release of the recruitment notification.
