Hyderabad: The Centre said on Friday that it was considering excising civil areas of certain cantonments and merging them with neighbouring municipalities in order to bring uniformity in municipal laws. The broad modalities for proposed excision had been shared with the state governments for their comments
Stating this in reply to a question by CPI Lok Sabha member Subbarayan K., minister of state for defence Ajay Bhatt said one cantonment, Khasyol in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, has been denotified on April 24.
With regard to elections, Bhatt said that following the order of the Supreme Court in 2016 in ‘Cantonment Board Pachmarhi v Gopal Das Kabra & Ors,’ cantonment boards had revised the electoral rolls by deleting the names of encroachers on defence land.
