44 new Leptospirosis cases in Kozhikode
Kozhikode: No rat fever (Leptospirosis) related death has been reported in the district on Tuesday. However, 44 more cases were added, of which 14 are confirmed. Thus the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 118 and suspected to 239. The death toll is 20 of which 12 are suspected cases.
On Tuesday, 14 confirmed cases were reported from Puthiyara (2), Olavanna (3), Nalukuttipa rambil, Kommeri,Punna sseri, Kunnamangalam (3), Perumanna and Pannikottur. Suspected cases are from Vellipara mbu (2), Poovatuparambu (2), Vadakara, Chevaram balam, Nallalam, Puthuppanam (2), Merik unnu, Vengalam, Puthiya ra, Mavoor and Perin galam.
Meanwhile, the geriatric and pay wards at Kozhikode medical college hospital (KMCH) has been transformed to lepto isolation wards. Accor ding to KMCH Principal Dr V.R Rajendran, the geriatric wards are all equipped including scanning facility in casualty to deal with the situation. District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr V Jayashree, National Rural Health Mission district programme manager Dr Naveen. A and Manipal Centre for Virus Research (MCVR) head Dr G. Arunkumar visited Kozhikode medical college hospital and reviewed the arrangements.
The isolation ward at KMCH has been expanded to accommodate 85 more patients. Arrangements have been made at Government general hospital Kozhikode, District hospital Vadakara, Taluk hospital Koyilandy and Feroke hospital to take care of lepto patients. The OP timings at community health centres (CHC) has been extended to 5 pm. Besides, 14 temporary health centres have also been commenced.
