Nizam theft sad, says Esra Jah
Hyderabad: Esra Jah, the first wife of the last Nizam of Hyderabad Mukarram Jah, has termed theft of the priceless items from the Nizam Museum at Purani Haveli as sad and unfortunate. A tiffin box, made entirely of gold and studded with diamonds on its knob was missing, along with a gold tea cup and saucer, and a gold spoon.
Speaking to Deccan Chornicle, Esra Jah said, “It would be unfair of me to comment on the Trust’s collection. I only saw it about 8-9 years ago. It is currently under my brother-in-law’s custodianship, and while we had spoken about moving it to Chowmahalla once upon a time, nothing ever came of it. I don’t know about the security there, but am sure something must have been caught on cameras. The loss of the item is very sad and unfortunate.”
The power of attorney for all the Nizam properties rests with her and it is thanks to her that Hyderabad can proudly showcase Chowmahalla and Falaknuma Palaces.
