One lakh eggs for flood-hit students

The students of some 40 schools in the district will benefit from the project.

Kollam: The animal husbandry department has initiated distribution of one lakh eggs to students in the flood-affected areas to ensure the nutritional needs of those who have returned to their homes from the relief camps. The students of some 40 schools in the district will benefit from the project.

The Tamil Nadu national egg coordination committee has supplied the eggs and the distribution will be completed within three days in the worst-hit areas like Kunnathoor, Sooranad north and south, Manappally, Pavu-mba, Sasthamkotta, Pida-voor, Thalavoor, east and west Kallada, and Adic-hanalloor. Over 400 school children from Peringalam island at Munroe Thuruthu were given eggs after the project was inaugurated. Special boats were arranged to distribute the eggs in water-logged areas.

The department also supplied preventive medicines for cattle in these areas with the support of tele-veterinary service unit, SPCA emergency care facility and district panchayat’s ambulance.
