Pragathi Nagar Nala Reviewed, But No Action Taken: Residents
Hyderabad: Residents claimed that due to the increased construction activity upstream in Pragathi Nagar area, water outlets were blocked and entire rain water was delivered into this nala, which also became very narrow.
Two months back civic authorities reviewed the nala and assured that they will take up expansion works, but nothing happened.
As the news of Mithun’s missing came to light, their relatives from Suryapet and different parts of the city, and also locals gathered at Spatial Gardenia, meanwhile, Turkapalli lake also was packed with people from the neighbouring Rajiv Gruhakalpa complex.
The residents said that they have been repeatedly complaining to officials, but their pleas fell in deaf ears. Every rain, this is the situation and they live in fear, they said. “ Every rain, we make our own alternate arrangements, but there is no support or any response at all from the authorities,” said Reddy Satish, a resident.
Unless there is some control on the irregular and illegal construction activity upstream near the Pragathi Nagar Kaman area, this nala will face this heavy inflows. The narrow nala goes underground in some areas, but in most locations, it is open and without any protection, putting the residents at risk every day.
Had there been any block anywhere in the nala, Mithun’s body could have got stuck in it and the chances to trace were almost impossible, the residents claimed. They demanded immediate measures to address the nala issue and implement them.
