Mysuru: As the royal family of Mysuru prepares for its traditional Dasara celebrations, the over 800- year -old golden throne weighing 280kgs was removed from the strongroom of the Mysuru Palace on Thursday and assembled for the symbolic durbar that its scion Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will hold.
The gem-studded golden throne was removed amidst tight security in the presence of Mr Yaduveer’s mother, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and others and assembled in the Durbar hall of the Mysuru Palace. A series of poojas were performed by palace priests. Mr Yaduveer will ascend the throne on all nine days of the Dasara festival, dressed in traditional royal robes and wearing antique jewellery from the royal treasury to hold his “private durbar.”
Entry to the durbar will be restricted to members and relatives of the royal family and select invitees. A lion-faced mask will be attached to the golden throne on the first day of Dasara on October 10 and removed on October 18 after it concludes. The golden throne will be dismantled on November 2 and returned to the strongroom of the palace. The royal family will also hold special poojas in the palace on all ten days of the festival. Mr Yaduveer will participate in the Ayudha pooja on October 18 and the following day will ride in a silver chariot in the grounds of the palace to fulfill a Dasara tradition.
