NSS to file review petition against apex court verdict

The state government may be sticking to its policy.

Kottayam: The Nair Service Society (NSS) has decided to file a review petition against the Supreme Court verdict on the entry of women in Sabarimala temple.
NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair criticised the decision taken by the state government and the Travancore Devaswom Board not to file a review petition.

"The state government may be sticking to its policy. However, the stand of TDB, which is bound to protect the rituals of Sabarimala and other 1,200 temples, is inexplicable," Mr Nair said. The TDB manages its affairs with the money received from the Sabarimala pilgrims. The believers know what the government does, he said.

Mr Nair alleged that the state government was showing undue haste in implementing the court verdict which will affect the believers. They will be compelled to protect their faith, he said."The Constitution of the country is paramount and the obsolete rituals should be changed. However, it is the duty of the governments to effect changes periodically for protecting people's faith," he said. Then only peace and integrity could be maintained in the country. The state government and the TDB should solve the issue slowly, he added. He also held discussions on the issue with BJP state president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai at Perunna.
