Hyderabad: The income-tax department has served notice to several temples in Telangana asking the managements to pay their pending taxes immediately.
The I-T officials served notices on the Vemulawada temple, the Yadadri Narasimha Swamy and the Saraswati temple at Basara, among others. A total Rs 14 crore taxes were pending for the past few years.
Responding to the notices, endowments minister A. Indrakaran Reddy said that they would stage a protest against the BJP government at the Centre for utilising the I-T department to target Telangana temples. The income-tax department was deliberately serving notices on Telangana temples, he alleged.
