Telangana government to check illegal layouts and buildings in new districts
Hyderabad: Taking advantage of realty boom in new districts, large-scale illegal layouts and buildings are coming up in the districts forcing the TS government to check this by setting up Urban Development Authorities.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to put in place UDAs for all districts to ensure planned growth of new districts.
The government had created 21 new districts on Dasara, all of them carved out of the nine existing districts, while Hyderabad district remained untouched.
However, the new districts surrounding Hyderabad and other new districts carved out of Karimnagar, Nizambad, Adilabad, Medak, Khammam and Nalgonda districts have been witnessing huge illegal layouts with realtors purchasing hundreds of acres of agriculture land and converting them into real estate ventures without seeking necessary approvals from the government.
Though there is a Directorate of Town and Country Planning working under the Municipal department to ensure planned development of municipal corporations, municipalities and urban areas, it failed to deliver as it remains only on paper.
There are large-scale complaints against the staff of the directorate that they are allowing illegal layouts and constructions by taking bribes.
Taking these factors into consideration, the CM has decided to set up UDAs along the lines of HMDA for every district to ensure planned development.
Once UDAs are formed, they will be empowered to grant approvals for layouts and constructions.
“The setting up of UDAs would ensure planned development in new districts. The CM asked us to begin the process of setting up UDAs for each district. The UDAs will be asked to devise growth plans which can cater to the needs of 30 years,” said municipal minister K.T. Rama Rao.
He said all the district collectors have been asked to submit proposals on setting up UDAs and submit to government for approval.
The proposals should contain the surrounding areas and villages, which should be brought under the jurisdiction of UDAs for planned growth, development of internal roads, Outer Ring Roads to address traffic issues, identification of residential, commercial, industrial, entertainment zones etc.
