Congressmen enter EVM room, BJP demands probe
Bhopal: Ruling BJP on Tuesday moved the Election Commission demanding a probe into the alleged unauthorised entry into the EVM store room by two senior Congress leaders a couple of days ago.
In a petition to the chief electoral officer (CEO) of MP V.L. Kanta Rao, BJP alleged that senior Congress leader and former Union minister Suresh Pachouri along with one of his party colleagues visited the strong room here where EVMs have been kept a couple of days ago apparently to see security arrangement there.
“As per EC rule, only a candidate or an election agent of a party can visit the EVM store room in his or her district to take a look into security arrangement.
But, Mr Pachouri who is seeking elections from Bhojpur assembly constituency in Raisen district, does not belong to Bhopal district and hence his entry into the strong room is illegal”, the complain said.
BJP sought to know details as to which officer gave him permission to visit the strong room and when he visited the strong room and how long he stayed there.
The party also demanded action against the erring officers for facilitating his alleged unauthorized entry into the strong room.
In another development, a Congress delegation led by MP Congress chief Kamal Nath moved the EC in Delhi on Tuesday demanding to strengthen security arrangements in all the EVM strong rooms in the state in the wake of reports of tampering of voting machines at several places in MP.
