HC heard the arguments in Vijayasai Reddy suspension case

Hyderabad: Justice Surepalli Nanda of the Telangana High Court on Tuesday adjourned to four weeks, hearing in a petition filed by YSRC MP V. Vijayasai Reddy, a chartered accountant, who challenged suspension of his membership from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI).

Earlier, the High Court had stayed the ICAI’s suspension of Vijayasai Reddy on charges of professional misconduct, and had issued notice. ICAI counsel and other respondents argued that the Telangana High Court had no jurisdiction to hear the petition, because Vijayasai Reddy was registered as a chartered accountant in Chennai and resides there.

Senior counsel S. Niranjan Reddy, a Rajya Sabha member, arguing on behalf of Vijayasai Reddy submitted that although the petitioner was registered in Chennai, he had worked as a chartered accountant in other states as well as in Telangana. It was argued that the cases of Jagati Publications mentioned by the ICAI disciplinary committee were within the Telangana state jurisdiction.
