NTPC threatens to discontinue power to Telangana
Hyderabad: The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) has threatened Telangana that it would discontinue power supply if the outstanding bills of Rs 1,356.06 crore were not cleared.
NTCP had earlier given a notice informing that the power supply would be cut from 12 am on Wednesday. However, on Tuesday, TS Transco made a commitment to the NTPC and requested it to supply power.
According to the notice given by NTPC, the TS Discoms had an outstanding amount of '2,152.92 crore of which '1,356.06 crore was beyond 60 days. NTPC had sent repeated reminders about the outstanding amount from September, 2018.
As per the agreements signed between Telangana and NTPC, payments for the energy bills should be made within two months from the date of issue of bill. NTPC has the right to regulate the power if payments were not made.
In pursuance of this, NTPC had informed that 1688.48 Mega Watts of power would be regulated.
Meanwhile, an official from TSTRANSCO said that a commitment was given to NTPC and therefore power would not be regulated. “The notices were also withdrawn for the same,” he said.
