Parties go online for campaigning
Kochi: With an unusually long campaign period of 72 days ahead, political parties have resorted to the social media for propaganda. The UDF launched an unofficial survey to identify candidates while the LDF supporters started sharing custom-made videos against the UDF. The Indian Union Muslim League, which has already announced the candidates’ list, has also started a Facebook campaign.
An online poll asking the users to suggest Indian National Congress candidates went viral last week. The poll was shared on Facebook as well as Google- Plus. The IT cell of the KPCC denied any hand in the poll but sources close to Congress leaders confirmed to DC that some supporters were behind the poll and the same would be considered as an opinion of the people on the social media.
Meanwhile, the CPM has launched a slew of professionally-made videos.
In one such video it mocked at the Congress ministers while in
another it publicised the activities of yesteryear LDF ministries.
The CPM supporters and several pages created by the party to woo its voters and to counter the allegations of other parties shared this video. IUML's candidate P.K. Basheer and other Muslim League leaders shared the works carried out by them in the last five years on their Facebook pages.
“At present, we are focusing on sharing the developmental activities of the UDF government. Since we have plenty of time to concentrate on the polls, we are planning a time-phased campaign,” said a source.
The BJP supporters are yet to start the online campaign. The ever-increasing fan base of the BJP is waiting for the party to announce its candidates.
