Duped African students move Karnataka Human Rights panel

They also demanded that the management should pay Rs 1 lakh per student as compensation for the loss of an academic year.

Bengaluru: Around 40 African students pursuing BBM, BCA and B.Com from the Loyola Business School (Bangalore International College) in Karthik Nagar have on Tuesday filed a petition with the Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) seeking the commission to direct Bangalore University (BU) to conduct an inquiry into the functioning of the college.

The students also urged KSHRC to direct BU to take steps on refunding tuition and hostel fees paid by students and initiate transfer of all students of BIC to a college of their choice.

The aggrieved students also wanted the KSHRC to direct the jurisdictional police to register a criminal complaint against Mohammad Assad Malik, the chairperson of BIC, under sections pertaining to fraud, cheating and theft and steps be taken to ensure that the original documents of all students, including passports, are returned to them.

The students also requested the commission to direct the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) to provisionally extend the visa and residential permits of all students studying in BIC. They also demanded that the management should pay Rs 1 lakh per student as compensation for the loss of an academic year.

Deccan Chronicle had earlier reported about the cheating and harassment of foreign students by the college management. They had confiscated the
students’ passports and other certificates, when they protested against irregularities by the college management.
