Pipeline works done, Vattepally still bumpy
Hyderabad: Residents staying in the colony clusters in Vattepally area of the Old City are putting up with bad road conditions. The thoroughfare between Engine Bowli and Vattepally Nice Hotel was dug up for laying of drinking water pipelines. Though, the works were completed a few months ago, there is no sight of a road.
As a result, the uneven road is offering a backbreaking bumpy ride to motorists. A few thousand vehicles ply on the road connecting several colonies in Vattepally, Mustafanagar, Fatimanagar with the arterial Falaknuma to Charminar road.
“The authorities just did some patch work and left it. Over a period of time, the road surface started eroding, leaving potholes on the stretch,” complained Guntal Baba resident Ehteshamuddin. Bibi Ka Chasma resident Ahsanullah Khan said the road on either side of the patched-up stretch is damaged extensively. “When big machinery was employed for road cutting, the entire road surface was disturbed. A new road should be laid,” he said.
GHMC executive engineer K. Anjaiah said HMWS&SB officials had laid a pipeline after which they had done patchwork. “We were about to lay BT road when the HMWS&SB officials informed us about laying another drinking water pipeline. A meeting was held with the board officials and they promised to complete their works in a month,” he said. After that work, the road would be recarpeted, he added.
Local corporator Shireen Fatima said a Crumb Rubber Modified Bitumen (CRMB) plan was sanctioned from Engine Bowli to Nice Hotel at a cost of '3.5 crore. “Till the works are undertaken, the GHMC will take up temporary repairs to ease the inconvenience,” she added.
