Girl student beaten up by school teacher in AP
Tirupati: In a strange case of corporal punishment in B. Kothakota of Annamayya district, a girl student of Class III was allegedly beaten by a teacher after she failed to answer her questions in the classroom. The student now carries marks of the beating and scratches on her back.
The incident came to light after the victim's parents protested against the teacher, prompting the Annamayya district collector P.S. Girisha to order a probe.
English teacher, Raja Ramadevi, who allegedly thrashed the student, has been served with a show cause notice. She has been asked to provide an explanation in writing as to why she punished the student in a cruel manner.
According to information, the girl student reached her home on Wednesday with injury marks on her back. The parents raised an alarm and took her to the hospital for treatment. She informed her parents that her English teacher had beaten her in front of her classmates after she failed to answer the teacher's question.
The parents subsequently went to the teacher and confronted her. She allegedly told them to go ahead and file a complaint against her anywhere.
Outraged, the victim’s parents organised a protest in front of the school. When the collector came to know of this, he immediately ordered an inquiry by district education officer (DEO) Sriram Purushottam. The DEO, in turn, asked MEO Reddy Sekhar to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. The DEO said corporal punishment was a violation of rule under the Right to Education Act.
