Andhra Pradesh continues to boil at 44.5 degrees Celsius
Visakhapatnam: Several parts of Andhra Pradesh, including regions along the coast, experienced a heat wave on Monday.
Mercury levels touched 44.5 degrees Celsius in Bapatla, 43.6 degrees Celsius in Machilipatnam, 43.5 degrees Celsius in Vijayawada and 43.1 degrees Celsius in Nellore.
People in coastal AP had a tough time dealing with the sweltering heat. The state had experienced relatively pleasant weather conditions over the past few days; some parts even received a spell of rain.
However, the slow advancement of the south-west monsoon caused temperatures to rise drastically on Monday.
It had previously been predicted that the south-west monsoon would reach Rayalaseema by June 4. But the movement of the monsoon has not progressed at the predicted rate.
According to weathermen, the south-west monsoon will take another two or three days to enter the state.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies off north coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the IMD has predicted that light rain can be expected in isolated parts of the state in the next couple of days.
Maximum temperatures are expected to gradually drop over the next two days. The state may register normal temperatures for the season by Wednesday.
