NEET 2019 results: TN improves 9 per cent in no of students qualifying

Neet examinations have been a topic of controversy in the state and had received a lot of flak from the people in the past.

Chennai: K. Shruthi, a student of Vellamal knowledge park, Ponneri topped the state in the Neet 2019 examination by scoring 685 of 720 marks. She secured the all India ninth rank in the OBC category and all India 57th rank in the Open category. The much-anticipated results of the National eligibility cum entrance test (Neet) UG 2019 were announced on Wednesday at 4 pm. Students can check their results in the websites ntaneet.nic.in and mcc.nic.in.

Neet examinations have been a topic of controversy in the state and had received a lot of flak from the people in the past. However, Tamil Nadu recorded a huge improvement in the overall results this year as compared to any other state in the country.

In Tamil Nadu, 1,23,078 students appeared for the exam out of whom 59,785 qualified. There has been a significant improvement in the pass percentage of the state with 48.57% of the state’s students clearing the examination as compared to the 39.56% of students who passed the test last year.

Nalin Khandelwal from Rajasthan scored 701/720 and emerged as the all India topper in Neet 2019. Madhuri Reddy, who scored 695, came first among girls, with an all India rank of seven.

Breaking the usual trend, boys outperformed girls with just 20 girls finding a place in the top 100 merit list. A total of 15,19,375 candidates registered for the exam of which 14,10,755 students appeared. Of them, 7.97 lakh cleared the medical-dental entrance exam. The total pass percentage this year stands at 56.50 per cent as compared to last year's 56.27 per cent

Delhi emerged as the best scoring region with 74.92 per cent of students qualifying the eligibility test. Among the south Indian states, Andhra Pradesh performed best with 70.72 per cent of those who took the exam qualifying versus 72.55 per cent last year.
