Pondy to ink deal with Madras Port
Puducherry: Puducherry government plans to sign an agreement with the Chennai Port to unload containers, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said here on Tuesday. About one million tonnes of freight in containers would be handled in a year, which will be increased to four million tonnes in a phased manner, the Chief Minister said while briefing reporters after a Cabinet meeting.
The meeting on Tuesday was attended by Ministers, Chief Secretary Manoj Parida, Lt Governor's Secretary Theevaneethidas, Secretaries Candavelou and Ragesh Chandra.
The meeting reportedly discussed the preparation of the full-fledged budget and its presentation in the house soon. The state planning board meeting, which was held on Monday night under the chairmanship of Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, had recommended an outlay of Rs. 6,465 crore (Rs 2,465 crore under plan and Rs 4,000 crore under non-plan) for the draft annual plan for 2016-17. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs/ NITI Aayog, New Delhi, will be approached to enhance the normal Central assistance and release of additional Central assistance for important projects. Skill development and manpower planning to meet the requirement of industries in the Union Territory will be given importance.
