Congress isolates K Sudhakaran on Jishnu row

Trouble is brewing for Kannur strongman K. Sudhakaran as he did not get the support from his Congress party colleagues.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Trouble is brewing for Kannur strongman K. Sudhakaran as he did not get the support from his Congress party colleagues over his alleged secret meeting with P. Krishnadas, chairman of the Nehru Group of Institutions. Former KPCC president K. Muraleedharan MLA said he did not go for a compromise meeting over the beating up of a student by Mr Krishnadas at the party's instance.

A meeting of the party's high-power Political Affairs Committee decided to seek an explanation from Mr Sudhakaran on his compromise talks at Cherpulassery, Palakkad, Tuesday night in his close relative’s home. Local DYFI leaders who came to know of it blocked him, and the police had to intervene to free him from their "custody".

Parents of Jishnu Prannoy who committed suicide on the group’s Pampady campus, have demanded to book Mr Sudhakaran for "trying to sabotage the case involving money." A law student, Shehir Shoukathali, had lodged an assault complaint against Mr Krishnadas. Mr Sudhakaran maintains that he attended the meeting on the request of both sides. He refused to reveal the details of what had transpired at their meeting.

“The party has always taken an active stand against on the issue," Mr Muraleedharan told reporters here. "Congress has never supported Mr Krishnadas as he is notorious for torturing his students. No way the party was aware of the meeting. KPCC president M. M. Hassan and Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala had already made the party stance clear.”
